Default My first go at motorbike mechanics

Hi Guys. Im new to the site. Ive been looking around it for a few days so I thought id post with my first experience of motorbike mechanics.

My bike is a '99 SV650X

My front discs were a bit wobbly. A little bit of a video can be found here -

So I decided to fit a new pair of wavy discs and pads

NEW

And a rather poor paddock stand. I Don't rate this type at all. Very unsecure

Im chuffed with myself i was rather worried about doing it but its not that bad a job. Rye

Brave man, choosing front brakes as your first fettle! Do they work okay?

Those biketek front stands are gash (particularly when you consider how good the back stand with a bobbins kit is). Extremely unstable and the front forks are forever bouncing off mine. I've just bought a headstock grabbing (pin) front stand again from Biketek, not that much more pricey and it takes about 1 minute longer to use, but it is vastly more stable and easier to use single handedly.

Remember that reverse-thread nuts and bolts need reverse tools

Keep the haynes close by, and keep your internet browser in forums.sv650.org, just incase you need some extra advice, and you'll be ok

Yeah they are working 10 times better than before. Ive got a set of braided lines to fit too. I think ill invest in the back stand bobbin kit. Should make it easier to get the back up. I bought them as a pair off ebay for £45 so wasnt expecting them to be ace. Just something to get me going.

Well done, taking the plunge from the "ignorance is bliss" zone of paying other people to do work for you is the hard part.
Cool discs

If you are going to buy a rear paddock stand I suggest that you get the bobbin adaptors and a set of bobbins. My bike fell off of the standard flat pads that come with most paddock stands !!

So it does ... my focus at that point was obviously seduced by bright shiny objects below
