Has anyone thought about living on a boat to save money? No council tax to pay (as long as the boat moves once a year) although mooring fees could be £1500/year, far less space to fill with expensive clutter, cheap heating and take 4 weeks off a year and bugger off to the med!
This is what £100k will get you... ![]() ![]() (there's a huge saloon downstairs, kitchen, lcd tvs, washing machine & 6 berths. Master room is huge with ensuite) or 1 bedroom apartment in Manchester |

It's a houseboat on a canal. She seems to like it. They even have a mooring with a garden.

I keep saying to my missus that we should do something like this.
With fuel prices increasing it could be a crippler though. Some of the boats you seen in the harbours on holiday are amazing |

I know of a couple who worked all their lives only to become ill. They sold up and bought a big boat and now they live in the south of Spain and move around when they get bored. Living on a boat can get quite cosy though.

I'd want a fast boat
![]() is it bonkers idea or is their some credibility to it? Boats do afterall lose value albeit very slowly after the initial hit. AFAIK boats are allowed to use red diesel at about 55-60p/litre. Considering a holiday in the med is expensive, going there for the similar money for much much longer and taking your whole house must be ace! |

I think mooring costs and insurance as well as fuel are what makes it a not so good idea.
I know canal boats here in London with permanent moorings on the Regents Canal selling for more than a 1 bed flat in central london!!
