![]() Quote:
Patient autonomy: The right of patients to make decisions about their medical care without their health care provider trying to influence the decision. Patient autonomy does allow for health care providers to educate the patient but does not allow the health care provider to make the decision for the patient. Does that help? Basically autonomy means 'making their own choice themselves'. Independent.. |

Autonomy, from what I gather, is the ability of someone to think for themselves and come to their own desicion, based on the information they have to hand.
So you would tell a person about X treatment for their problem, and say "it included this, that and the other. Think about it, and get back to me if you want to do it" It dosnt include you saying "it would be a good idea if you..." or "i think that it would be a bad idea for you..." Matt |

A person’s ability to make independent choices.
Not my own words exactly, lifted from the Greater Michigan Chapter of the Alzheimers Association, So if you're counseliing people with alzheimers, bingo! |
