Default Cheap hobbies

Why do my ‘cheap’ hobbies always end up in me getting carried away and me spending a small fortune on them?!?!

Most recent case in point … karting … mate at work was into karting, little 2-stroke race karts … I am a bit of a petrol head so it didn’t take much to get me keen in the idea when he said they were good for about a ton … “sounds a bit of a laugh” I said … “you can buy 2nd hand kart for <£300 that will do the job” he said … “go on, I’ll give it a crack, I’d spend about that all in on taking part in one bike trackday … at least there are several kart tracks in a sensible radius … Besides, if I don’t like karting, I can always just sell it on” …

So that is how it all started …

Sure enough I bought a kart for <£300 … and went out for my first drive … it was fun ...

I have been like 3 times now and with all the extra bits and spares I have bought since, (including a new engine, then a full engine rebuild where it blew up last time ) … I am running at >£1k already … and still have about a million and one things I wanna buy, so can see that doubling in the next few months …

Now how did that happen?!!?

It was the same with my minimoto .. started off as a ‘cheap’ idea … spent ~£100 on my first bike … I must have spent >£2k on minimoto now!!

Its bad!!

Perhaps!!

I sometimes wonder if it'd be cheaper to start snorting cocaine to get my kicks than take up the sort of hobbies I do!!!!

I am sure there is an opening for you down my local docks ... just keep off my 'turf'!!

Is 'chickens' a euphemism for something more sinister??? I can't believe chuck-chuck chickens can cost much in seed ... or did you start loosing lots of them to the big bad wolf?!!?
