Can someone delete this thread.* (see below)
I am sick and tired of hearing about Crabon Footprints and being taxed to hell and back because of my "Environmental Impact" Unless the entire world (and I am mainly looking at China) cleans up then nothing we do in this country can make a difference. And from an Ethical viewpoint, we cannot with any consience hassle the countries playing catch-up the the UK/US into NOT going through the "dirty" stage that we went through a number of years ago. * Ok, so maybe calling for the deletion of the thread is a bit much, but look at how our Carbon Footprints are used to screw us more and more. The Congestion charge was introduced to help traffic in London flow - now its an environmental tax. That is just one example. I know where I would like to leave MY carbon footprint.........

Well, yes. I believe that we need to be cleaner as it will affect future generations, ignorance is no longer an excuse. What does wind me up is when the government use that to generate money from 'green' tax which is then not invested into green issues but used to clear their global debt. That is totally wrong. My point was that these figures seem totally wrong. I mean how does a motorcycle generate more Co2 than a house over a year!!!

Hate this whole carbon footprint thing too.
I haven't heard anything about what level of carbon emissions (I'm talking about co2 here, other types are another matter) they are trying to achieve, what the current level is, and and justification for any figures they might give. See, we *need* carbon emissions. Trees need it. Trees produce oxygen from it. We lower our carbon emissions too much, and the trees will die. Then when all the trees are gone, the world is full of oxygen...for a time...then we convert it all to co2 again...and we all die. I never hear that angle being played and it really annoys me (the carbon footprint bandwagon). Grr. ![]() |

Yip, I hate that the government pretend to give a sh*t about the environment. I genuinley do think that we need to change our ways as a race otherwise we won't be here much longer. But until we get countries like India and China on board we may as well be p*ssing into the wind. China are coming to their own industrial age so will just be outputting millions of tonnes more Co2 each year. Which can only be bad for our home. I'm by no way a tree hugger but I think we should all take some responsibility to 'try' to be green.
Anyway, I'm done. Now, I need to buy a faster bike to pump out more evil Co2! ![]() |

If they going to tax us for polluting, at least put the money towards the funding of more forests, wind-farms, etc... Then again, same can be said for anything that is taxed... I don't see the money I spend on petrol duty going towards investing in useful projects like hydrogen producing algae, which would help towards the future use of hydrogen fueled vehicles. (Read this for info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biological_hydrogen_production_(Algae)) |

![]() ![]() It says £11.50 for an SV & £65 for a 2 bed flat to offset the co2 edit: & why would you think that a bike is less carbon than a house? over the last few months I have spent £1,035 in petrol for my bikes & £432 in Gas & electric for my house. Edit again, OK tax on petrol is a lot higher than tax on domestic fuel so given my example the house used more carbon ??? ![]() Last edited by Stu; 02-04-08 at 11:54 AM. |

There are a lot more chinese now than there were us during our industrial revolution. The impact of china (and to a lesser extent India) dwarves ours to such a huge extent as to render what we do largely meaningless. As an aside, I don't give 2 hoots about my carbon footprint. I'm a carbon based lifeform, it's hardly surprising I emit some carbon as I go about my daily buisness. Oh and I bloody hate celebrities with private jets who live in houses that consume more energy than a small town banging on about how we should all do our part to reduce our carbon footprint, when they are by far the worst culprits (on a personal level) by a long way.
