I had exactly the same issue - replaced the rotor still no joy - bought a sensor/drive from a breakers in bristol and swapped it over and touch wood....been working fine to date..2 weeks.

Small update. I checked the entire route from wheel to dash. Couldn't see anything wrong anywhere. Then I unplugged the wire insode the headlight and the speedo is just dead on 0. This shows that the problem is with the speedo sensor (not rotor!) or the initial bit of cabling from the wheel to the headlight junction. Now I need a new one of them I guess!

Even with broken drive lugs you can still turn it quick enough by hand to get a reading of 1 or 2 mph, try that and see if the problem is still there before checking further.
The other sometimes troublesome area is the cable getting trapped between the lock stop and the frame, damage from getting squashed there isn't always immediately obvious.

That was my problem. Actually, the break in the wire on mine, was at around the section where it clips down onto the mudguard(curvy).

Jacked the front up, spun wheel by hand and played with the cable along it's length till I found the break. Then just a matter of stripping back the insulation.....

Old rotor:

New on left, old on right:

Your old rotor is still like new compared to the one I removed from my ex's bike last Thursday. Basically, that one had to be dug out in a million mashed to hell bits with a thin screwdriver. There wasn't one part of it that was recogniseable as ever having been associated with a motorcycle or in fact anything at all. Tori's speedo was stuck on 0mph, it didn't generate random numbers. She'll be replacing it herself now the housing and wheel bearing have been cleaned out of all the mashed up bits.

Speedo rotor fitted and has solved the probs for me - shame really my driving was getting better due to not knowing the speed.

.....another downside is now I am clocking up miles again.......damn!

Default Re: Speedo shows double actual speed

Well don't know if this is any help or if anyone has any advise for me but my SV 650 04 un-faired shows double the actual speed I'm traveling at and then tops out when it get to 186 mph. The rotor is fine so I'm not sure if there is some kind of pulse reading error with it, I have got a CCM headlight conversion on it and as did this mod before I used it I'm not sure if it had the problem before.

Does anyone know whats going on?

PROBLEM SOLVED. FINAL REPORT:

Thanks to org member aadeyc73 I got hold of a curvey speedo drive and cable that led up to the headlight junction. I swapped them round and noticed that they DIDN'T fit! I think this is possibly new forum knowledge, I am dead excited haha. The problem is that the bolts that hold the disc on on the pointy bang against the plastic where the lead comes out of the drive. The pointy speedo drive is cut away a little cos the discs are straight, and the curvey drive is flush with the plastic casing cos the discs are kind of bent if you know what I mean. There is another difference: although the rotor and the plastic casing is the same distance apart, the rubber seal is slightly further out on the pointy drive. This means that when attaching the curvey drive, the seal hits earlier and therefore means the plastic outer rim has about a mm gap when you tighten it up. I did my first bit of bodging and filed the plastic down a bit where the cable comes out of the drive so that the disc bolts didn't catch on it. It worked fine. And now it is all done up and working although there is that gap of about 1mm which will probably get gunked up quickly, I will report on that if it does break.

So, it is fixed! And to celebrate, I made a gif of my favourite bike mechanic hero:

I replaced my rotor this weekend while respraying the forks and am now having the same problems as LawrenceRosling1987 . It now reads 2x as fast as normal , Petrol guage (trip1) goes up 2x normal , Mileometer (?) is increasing 2x normal and it tops out at 186mph .
Anyone know why or how this has happened and possibly offer a cure ?

Glad you got it sorted Warthog.

But you do know why the old lead was broken?

THere was no sign of any damage on the outside at least. Could have been the lead or could have been the sensor itself inside. I have the old one if you want to take it and find out where the fault was!
