The guy has enquired about welding - it was £130. We don't all move in circles that we know someone who'll do a bit o' welding for a drink. |

What did he do, drop it on a spike? They won't just fail like that, they will dent, or seams will split. To poke a hole from simple drop then metal must be compromised.
At lowest point, this suggests water has been sat in it.

hi guys
I put that product on the small hole last night. basically the product does state that it can deal with such small leaks etc. Anyway i am going to get a qoute for welding today from local car garages also. cant ride the bike for a few weeks anyway due to broken ankle so i have filled the bike up and will monitor tank, as tank is not on bike yet. Also will connect the tank and run the bike at a standstill, however looking at the work it looks like there is no chance it will leak imo. the product hardens in ten mins and it states can actually be harder than the meterial it is covering, you can even do work on it such as drilling etc. The dent was caused by me doing work on the bike and it fell off the seat onto the floor possibly hitting on the weakest part of the tank. the actually metal seems very thin anyway so not really surprised it happened. Also will be keeping an eye out for a second hand tank. cheers all. |

As a side comment--I have a 4" scar on my chin where a tank blew up after welding
The tank had been drained and left overnight full of water, drained before welding but the tank itself held residual vapours which exploded on contact with the torch. It is very difficult to completely purge the vapours. Leave the tank almost full of water when you weld it as this reduces any petrol vapour to a minimum and flash it before welding You could try liquid metal as an alternative to the other stuff suggested. |

![]() I drained my tank and left it for about 2 weeks for it to dry out and all th evapours to disperse and it was fine for welding then.

The guy at halfords said this was similiar to liquid metal, basically very similiar product made by the same company, but this one I used a bit more specific to the the job. not even going to attempt welding the tank even after draining it. with my luck i will blow up the street |
