Agreed. Why don't their owners have to shovel their **** up like dog owners do?

Surely the same as road tax for motorbikes/cars/lorries? Cycle lanes ain't free!

But seriously, enforcement would cost more than raised, and it's not practical for children to have to pay. The only problem I have with pushbikes, is when they are on the pavement - pavements are for pedestrians. Kind of falls into the same category as pushchairs being shoved into the traffic at crossings to make drivers stop.

Yes but cycle lanes are'nt maintained to the same standard a road is either...

The ones I use a pot holed, the surface is bad and breaking up in places, also they are dual use so I have to contend with pedestrians, dog owners etc etc

Sometimes I feel safer riding in the road !!!

I just think it would be beneficial if they were registered as on the continent and perhaps have some sort of liability insurance whether it be part of household insurance while I have no wish to stop chidren on bikes the people in this instance were adults, probably members of a cycling club judging by their attire and equipment[lycra cycling shorts and tops]
Cycling is a good health sport and I often use a bike to pop down the town

!(if there is one)

Chill out! Give the hippies a break. Tax the people who are using the cheapest form of transport?
What's next on the agenda? Tax walking? Bright idea! While we're at it, lets charge the homeless 'pavement rent'.

Quite the opposite should happen. Keep cycling free and build them a decent cycle network comparable to those you find abroad. The more people out of cars, the more room there is on the roads. It's a simple as that.
