Doesn't matter who flashes you. If you pull out it's your responsibility to check it is clear.

I say get a brief. Dangerous Dave knows a good one IIRC. And perhaps get your friend to instruct his insurance company not to do anything in the meantime.

there sems to be a few of these accidents, i think people need to watch out for other people letting out cars, its definately something i try to stay aware of when filtering.

A very good one, Bromiley Holcroft, they have worked wonders for me twice now in bike accidents.

There is still a responsibility on the car pulling out and crossing the paths of oncoming vehicles to ensure that it is safe to do so. If the car pulling out has crossed over give way lines then there is your answer.
