I'm sure there are threads on this sort of thing, see what the Search button reveals...

my front brakes where sticky and I couldn't igure out why. Where the slide goes into the calliper itself had all grown up with corrosion, remove all of it or itl keep happenin! If the bike is used in the wet alot I guarantee this will b a major factor. Polish out and grease up!!!

Have you got somewhere to put a shed to keep your bike in?
If I remember rightly you store it outside dont you?

Storing it dry would help cut out all the little niggles like this

Yeah I do but it's under cover in a carport and under a cover, I have no way of keeping it in a shed unfortunately.

What about blanking off the back of the carport.

Even under a cover, bikes tend to get damp

That MCN ninjas guide is ok.

I do pretty much that, but never use brake fluid as a lubricant. I use a bit more red rubber grease on the caliper half seal, copper slip on the caliper half bolts and a very sparing amount on the bleed nipple threads.

I noticed as I stopped at the lights the other day my bike "bit" as I stopped. Its slowly got worse. I took the calipers off to have a look today and despite cleaning them literally the other week they look like they haven't been touched in years! Dont even ask about the recently cleaned air filter! Winter weather and the salty roads really takes its toll.

is there a way of doing a partial service on them? or cheap way i.e just buying the rubber grease, have all the tools, is it necessary to use compressed air?

If you can pump the pistons out as far as possible and if neccessary holding one back a bit so they come out equally, you may be able to get them out with piston pliers like the ones below.

They can be a sod to bleed after overhauling. So try filling the calipers with fluid before re-attaching and if need be remove bleed nipple to pump fluid into and out of the caliper as well. Once its clearly coming out fit the nipple and bleed as normal.
