My alarm annoys me when filling up with fuel and my work mates find it rather fun setting it off but i still would not go without it think so long as its a decent alarm its worth having.

Don't see the point tbh - if someone wants your bike bad enough, it'll go in the back of a transit with the help of a few guerrillas, who you probably should steer clear of anyway. If you're paying for insurance and a lock then the money is best spent on gear/mods/petrol imo.

My bike lives on the drive 24/7 with a cover and a hardcore lock, if it goes, it goes I guess.

depends on your need. If you commute to work daily and leave it parked in public places/don't have a garage then I'd get one.

But I had one on the sv1000 and hated it.. bag of shiite. Never gonna have another bike with an alarm again. Mind you I keep mine garaged/locked/chained/disk locked when out and about

Alarms are useful if you're near the bike when the alarm goes off. Otherwise the rest of the world just ignores them.... and the scrotes just lift your blaring bike into their van, drive off and sort out the alarm in their own time.

If you're regularly leaving the bike somewhere other than at home, what about a tracker? Little bit more subtle, and there's a chance you get your bike back and the thief gets nicked (bonus!).

Depends on your parking situation. For me, it is parked in a car port, so is accesible, so I have a ground anchor. The alarm is good as it alerts me to the fact someone is having a go. They are unlikely to get the cover off, chains cut etc in the time it would take me to be outside with my breaker bar!!!!!

Plus, all my neighbours know I have an alarm and have kindly said if they hear it go off in the day they will check. Useful as there is always someone home.

So, as I said at the start, depends on your situation.

I have a cheap-o 2way alarm mainly as I live in a flat; I can see my bike but if the alarm goes off I can't always hear it but the key fob vibrates and buzzes loud enough to wake me so I can go and have a look out the window - but I would never leave the bike un-chained just trusting the alarm to stop any scrotes...
