or you could use sykeside campsite at the bottom of kirkstone pass

has bunkhyouses / b&b / or tents / wigwams also has 2 pubs very reasonable indeed . its about 1 mile into ambleside up kirkstone and down the struggle.

wherever you go will be fantastic but make sure you visit surprise view ashness bridge. hardknott / wrynose currently VERY VERY poor road surface (winter damage) kirkstone no problem , honister no problem side gates / redbank loose gravel in bits but passable.

Me and a mate are coming from Tayside to the Lake District at the start of next month. Hopefully warmer better weather. We've never been before so looking forward to it.
