Dipper, I'm a cyclist too and agree with G, some cyclists are a bloody liability on the roads and dont have a clue as to what is going on around them.
The problem with cycling is that any idiot can buy a bike and ride it on the road with no insurance, tax or check of roadworthyness. Doesnt excuse what the van did but then, if you knew it was a dodgy section of road, be prepared to meet an idiot and take extra precautions. |

Now, I'm quite a "novice" cyclists, but honestly, the abuse cyclists get is completely unjustified and riddiculous 99.9% of the time. Yeah there are the ********s, same as there are plenty of lunatics on bikes or in cars. |

Cheers for the comments, I do alot of miles on pushbike, van and car and this is most dangerous thing that has happend to me for a long long time, on the bike I command the road, let traffic pass when I can and have a mirror to keep an eye behind. I drove this section this morning picturing where my bike was compared to oncoming cars and I just could not believe how this van could have got past, I'll be riding nearer the middle in future on this section. 50 yards on the road widens and there's plenty of room to pass so most wait. In a car this time of day round here all this sort of thing achieves is getting to the next traffic queue quicker...... IMO pointless!
