thanks seem that you need to ask then, never thought of asking for 12 months when i ordered it (to excited) but i did only pay £4250 and got a lot of accesories cheaper as well

when u exceed 600cc the tax goes up so if you dont as you get 6months.under 600cc you have more chance of 12months

stupid rule really as my cbr 600 was cheaper to tax than the sv even though the cbr used more fuel and poluted the atmosphere more i dont understand this country

If they tell you 12 and you get 6 then it's misrepresentation under Trades Descriptions.

Garages etc always price in for 12 months tax a full tank of fuel (and in cars also foot mats, mudflaps etc) Usually the commission is based on this fact. By haggling for these you are only getting what you paid for, by not haggling you are paying over the odds.

Always push the question "Are you willing to lose this sale for the sake of a little tax and a tank of fuel?" Once you have got that agreed you can then afford to be cheeky.

(When my wife bought our car we got the tax, the fuel, the mats, mudflaps, paint protection and the years servicing. All this AFTER we have beaten the salesman down by £1,000)

The next stage is then to quibble with the finance companies......

Dealers only have to provide the minimum requirement of tax, IE six months for the SV650 or it will be a year for under 600cc as thats all you can buy.
Half a tank of fuel is also the minimum requirement. unfortunatly nowadays the OTR costs are factored into the selling price. Normal the SV would have OTR costs of £250 which covers, reg fee, tax, fuel, uncrating the bike, pdi, numberplate and any consumables used. TBH with some of the deals at the mo the margin from the bike hardly covers the £250.

We are selling them for £4199 OTR..with 6mths tax. A good cheap OTR deal cant offer much more with the bike as selling at that price eats into the OTR costs,so you hardly end up clearing enough to cover the sales costs but a deal can always be done on extras..

Not when margins are that tight!. Being cheeky often offends

Best looking at deals on accessories etc rather than the bike after its already been knocked down.

When there is often £50 in a new sale there isnt much room left

At £4199 OTR you are offering a significant discount against the list price of £4599. As long as buyers have researched their prices first this should be spotted.

But what it does demonstrate is that £4199 is achievable as an OTR. If you are then offering £4199 with only 6 months tax and comparing against the list price surely it is only reasonable to point out that the offer is not the same, as Suzuki List Price includes all on-the-road charges. These charges include manufacturer's delivery, pre-delivery inspection, number plate, 12 months road fund licence, first registration fee and fuel. VAT is included.


In short £4199 is a good deal, but if it is only possible by supplying less fuel and a shorter tax disc than the list price allows for then the terms should be made explicit at the time of sale. Afterall, the idea of offering the item for sale is so that both parties leave satisfied by the outcome.
