I had this problem on my curvy. I had the jets changed to make the bike run richer and it no longer does it.

The other year at a show and shine our shop had we had Dyno runs... a guy there with a SV1000S had his up on the dyno and the front header was bright orange... kinda like coals in a fire ... really high temps there...
