Mines 3 months old and has 7500 miles on it.
Only issue was it refused to start for about 10 mins one morning?? Managed to fix it by swearing though. |

I know a certain person who got something like 175k out of his - mind you he was on his 3rd engine by then
![]() Check the oil level every time you ride it, as this seems to be one of the biggest causes of engine failure |

Mine is a 2000 curvy and has done 22,000.
Just coming up to 3 years with her and it had 6,500 on the clock when I bought her .. so that's ... one-two-three (breaths hard as he works it out) ... erm ... 15,500 miles in 3 years, which is about 5,000 and a bit per annum. My average is dropping over the years, as I have started to cycle to work a couple of times a week, which is obviously reducing my commuting mileage on the SV. I think I did just under 4000 miles between MOTS this last year. The plus side of cycling is, you don't need to buy petrol, but you do need to eat more food to compensate, oh, and car drivers are even worse b*stards to cyclists than motorcyclists. Just had a new ignition barrel as well, as someone tried to screwdriver it (before I bought it), and cocked the keyslot up, so that it leaked in water and sometimes wouldnt start when monsoon type rain had fallen while at work. Okay so I am rambling ... I'm alone in the office right now!!! |

Mines done a tad under 8K since registered this march, I pondered chopping it in for a GSXR 750 K5 to recoup some money, but decided that the bike was still capable of better things after seeing some other riders at work (Squirrel_hunter?).
Nope, I'll keep it, just have to love the engine and that exhaust note from the CCC. I do keep an eye on the oil mind after reading here. |

Is oil a problem, i keep an eye on mine, not lost a drop yet and im on 9500miles in about 7 months. Guess as long as it got run in right and allowed to warm up oil shouldnt "disapear" should it?
I recon 100k should be done by this engine easy, it aint too stressed with power being sub 10k rpm (provided you dont bounce the needle off the red too much ![]() |

I'm at 132k I checke the oil every time I fill up, sometimes I add a little, sometimes I go thru a couple tanks without having to add
haven't done anything but routine maintenance & normal replacement, runs as good as ever |
