Hi I just got back from france was great my advice is to look where you are going or you will crash into the back of a car like my mate did (PLonka. He is ok thou). Can recommend RAC breakdown if you have a car license aswell they were wicked. Also I can recommend the D518 sort of near grenoble, comes out into a little town called Die some good riding around there, was my favourite road of the whole trip N85 is a must aswell.

GB Stickers are compulsory within the EU unless your UK registration plates display the GB Euro-symbol (Europlates) which became a legal option from 21 March 2001. The Euro plate must comply with the new British Standard (BS AU 145d). The Euro plate is only legally recognised in the EU; it is still a requirement to display a GB sticker when travelling outside the EU
As one or two peeps have said you can get away without one (and most of the other stuff), but if the cops are feeeling vindictive you can be fined and they will require payment on the spot.

Just got back from an amazing week in south west France...torrential rain on the way down, flooded the front spark plug,
limped half the way on one cylinder, fixed it!....
Sunbathed lots...barbeque every evening, then howling wind on the way home -
like riding something at Alton Towers, and now I need a new chain and sprockets...loved every minute!!!

If you are travelling on a Sunday or early Monday morning, stick to the motorways as you will be guaranteed to find petrol, but could come a cropper on one of the RN roads.

Have a great time, and don't forget the sun screen!

Seconded! N85 all the way down to the med. Fabulous. If you get the chance, Mont Blanc tunnel then down to Aosta, stay over, back over the Pic. St. Bernado pass via Switzerland.

Loads of great rides down there.

just got back from there myself & had a wicked time. can't believe how bike-frendly it was, everyone pulls over to let you by, etc

just a thought tho, before buying breakdown cover check that it includes recovery if you have an accident - some don't and it could get expensive if the bike's not rideable. Plus if you have the cover sods law says that you're much less likely to crash!

I thought having an EU tag on your plate removed the need for the CoO sticker?

Do it, the experience is fantastic.

I've never put a GB sticker on the bike, and never had it mentioned when been stopped. You can tell the British vehicles, there the ones who's number plates have letters twice the size of everybody else's

As Toad says, watch out for the roadsigns (or have somebody with you that can call your Mrs )

.
