why would a GSXR600 be so awful? they actually dont run too bad. And the bit about hurting yourself when the restrictor is removed?! imagine if someone said that about an SV, Its not like you would remove it then pin the throttle through all the gears into a tree sorry but you sounded like an anti-biker in that post mate, I can't see the problem myself.

1) To get "anything" from any 600 SS you need revs, as they generate their power higher up. Restriction normally cuts the power off just as the engine gets going. A vee twin on the other hand generates it's power lower down, alowing you to have more useable power (well, that's my theory).

2) The difference between a restricted and a non restricted SV is not that great, seeing as the "push" from the engone (torque) is made lower down. Also, the difference between 33bhp and ful power is about 2:1 on an SV, and closer to 2.8:1 on the GSXR.

Also, those requiring to run a 33bhp bike are younger, and therefore less likely to take it easy as soon as they have a full power bike.

Me, anti biker ??? You got the wrong bloke mate...

Probably no different to all these people doing their DAS on a rented ER5 then heading straight down the showroom to buy the latest SS600 or more often these days a Litre Superbike!

I think this whole sports bike trend has come about because the people getting into biking these days just have so much money. Compared to the souped up Jap Chavwagons and German Saloons they drive they find that the top sports bikes cost loose change.

I don't know why they wouldn't just do their DAS rather than messing about with restrictors. I suppose this only applies to a small group of younger riders. Surprised they can afford the insurance but then kids these days seem to get loadsa money from mummy and daddy judging by the cars I see them driving around in at 17. Stacking shelves at Asda 3 nights a week sure didn't pay that much when I was a student. I couldn't even afford a 1000cc mini and had to get around on an old CD175. Back then a 10 year old 250 was out of my price range and totally uninsurable let alone a flippin brand new £6k sports bike!!!!

You sound quite bitter and twisted you know.

Just as a point of reference, I did do my DAS and still had to get a restricted licence for a bit, and I know plenty of other people who did the same so its not just a little group of young riders.

I haven't heard of many complaints from people on restricted GSXRs so it can't be that bad. And as for 'when the restrictor is removed would be so great the rider could be in danger of hurting himself for the first couple of weeks', what crap! The same can be said of anyone getting on a big bike! I know plenty of people who get straight on a GSXR as their first bike (restricted or not) and they are fine. In fact one person I know has clocked up over 10,000 miles in 7 months!

If anyone's got a K7 GSX-R600 restricted ECU we could pick one of the many available test GSX-R's on here and see what it feels like restricted

Personally I feel that if the restriction meant that you didn't have access to anything over (say) 8000rpm, then you might get caught out if you went full throttle the minute it was derestricted, cos it does begin to take off. It's only a maybe cos you'd also have to be an idiot to not realise that at 8000 rpm it just wants to go faster, cos it has started winding itself up by then.

But then, not that many people are stupid enough to do that (full throttle as soon as its derestricted), they would be a bit more cautious, or at least go somewhere to try it and get used to it before using it in anger. The people who would do it, would probably be in as much danger on the restricted bike anyway, cos of that attitude.

Btw I don't know how the restriction works - does it just stop you going above a certain rpm? Or does it somehow allow you to go to the max rpm but only allow you to use enough throttle to give 33hp?
