He's not rideable at the moment, apart from the loss of condition his worst hind leg can just about deal with his own weight - even though I'm not supersized, even my skinny little frame is too much for him at the moment.

A little work, a lot of patience and time - he could be up for a little light schooling or local hacking - but there's always going to be the chance that his near-hind will give way at any time. The severed tendon is healed, but poorly and the connection isn't great.

There is the remote possibility of an op to replace it with a carbonfibre weave - but it's not guarenteed to work, expensive and the trauma and recovery time needs to be weighed against his quality of life.
If life can be made as good as possible then should he be put through it just to allow for the potential to work a bit harder? It's an unknown at the moment really.

As for his absentee owner - hmmm - who knows what's going on in her mind.
The centre had found somewhere he could have gone a while ago - 100 acres, not requirement for work, just to be a companion animal - but she refused to release him. Go figure.
They are waiting to hear back from various welfare organisations with a better idea of their legal standpoint. At the moment they are stymied, they can't rehome him but refuse to let him suffer - as I say, he's becomming a rescue case by default - it's just how long it takes.

Kick start I presume
Brakes are detachable, and the horn is a fitment of the rider - both are required before being allowed on the road. Though it has got four gears (one being reverse ) this model isn't capable of breaking any speedlimits.
Lights not required as it's daylight use only.

Just TRY not to get too attached to him, just in case she decided to move him ... but he sounds like a 'keeper'

Do you have another horse he can 'companion' (and be a companion to himself)

If she shows her face round the stables for anything other than signing him over to the center, then she'll won't get a piece of my mind... I don't have enough to spare.
I am not a violent person, but she runs the risk of getting a piece of something else.

I don't have a horse of my own, yet. I used to about 20 years ago, and plan on getting another before I finish my degree...
... as long as he's got some kind of secure future I'll be happy wherever he ends up - be it with me or somewhere else.

Mr Toad, but .

Oh man - I've not seen any Thelwell stuff for aaaaages - makes me feel about 12 again!

They've got a couple of Shetland poinies that look just like that - all fuzz, beady eyes, diddy little legs and very cheeky dispositions. One of the miniatures keeps sneaking out into the yard every time we bring Grey in from the field - Grey is a rather tall 3 yr old Shire stallion and she nips out by simply keeping pace and walking under his belly!

Oh my god, I cant believe Daz's owner has treated him that way - Id report the owner to the RSPCA and get the horse taken off him/her.

Great to see that you're taking care of him - he looks lovely

Absolutely nothing going on in her mind, she's off her rocker to let such a beautiful animal waste away like that

He's looking fab now though K, pat on the back for you (I'm sure he appreciates it too )
