Funnily enough, I haven't. I use Line6 gear, both a Variax (shoddy 300) and a PodXT Live, and I find them to be great pieces of gear for the money I paid for them, but their amps fail to impress me...

I like the tone I can get from them, and the distortion. Seems to be a...i dunno, deeper tone and noise if you get me, than my marshall amp

Yup, I get you, but then again I'm not a great Marshall fan either...

I think if you get one of the DSL or TSL marshall amp, they sound great- especially if you can crank it (the 100w amps are switchable down to 25w I think)- but any Marshall that isn't all valve ain't so good. I had a weedy sounding Valvestate 80 (one of the originals) that was my workhorse amp for 'undreds of gigs- but I eventually got sick of it.

The line 6 stuff is great- really sounds good. As does Amplitube or equivalent on the computers. But I'm still a valve purist at heart.

I've got a Mesa/Boogie Nomad 45- gorgeous tone, even with standard Ibanez pickups. Does that lovely spangly Fender clean tone (gorgeous for Les Pauls), plus anything from classic distortion to modern super distortion.

But it's a MkIII or MkIV head and 2x12 or 4x12 I'd love most! Just don't do enough with the music at the mo to justify spending any more cash on it...

Mind- if you're on a budget, Marshalls and Mesas are not really the ones to be looking at.

Peavey amps are pretty good- solid, dependable and good tone, even without valves. You can't go wrong with a Peavey Bandit.

Got one of the originals, the Bandit 75. Sounds hard as nails, it's heavier than a very heavy thing, but it still rocks.

They do take a bit of lugging about, don't they?

My Boogie is the same- compact, great sounding, weighs more than a blue whale!
