Do double check you slot it in the correct direction, it's a sort of double mirror image effect! You'll be disappointed if you go the wrong way.
The crank turns in the same direction as the wheels (pretty failsafe description  ), so to advance the ignition you want to move the pick-up so it is in a position equivalent to where the crank is turned backwards from its original position, i.e. the spark will be triggered earlier in the rotation.
