Amanda and me would love to get a Tamaskan, which is similar to a few breeds you mentioned KG, but the reality is we just couldn't give it the full attention it deserves. Maybe sometime in the future, if circumstances change for us.
Beautiful dogs though, pups and adults. Last edited by haggis; 16-05-09 at 07:53 PM. Reason: puppy resize!!! |

St Bernards are big slavering hairy high maintenance things...yik...
Bernese(sp) Mountain dogs are cool. but also big slavering hairy beasts...lol German Shepherd any day.... Though I love my Lab, wouldn't change her for the world. Not really guard dog material though... |

The slavering thing is a bit of a misconception, they (like all dogs) only slaver when their saliva glands start, ie when they are expecting food, so if you dont feed them treats then they should (theoretically) only drool at dinner time. The ones at the dog shows wear bibs to catch the drool but this is because they are constantally baited to get them to show well. Their lips are a slightly different set up so the drool spills a bit more, hence the reputation.

![]() Newfoundlands are big "slathery" dogs too but as KG rightly says, they only do it when there's grub about. When I went to Crufts a couple of years ago we saw the Newfie section and the show dogs were all wearing bibs, very sweet lol |

Crikey! So much choice! Whats it gonna be KG? Have you thought of Greyhound rescue? Those dogs need minimal exercise and are very docile... Alternatively, we have a rat out the back who reckons he's part of our brood and I'm happy to donate the clever super healthy creature to anyone who wants him before putting down the poison...

Yeah, next door just got a greyhound from the rescue, sorry i know they have a hard life but i just cant take to them, too skinny i think, not sure, just not for me.
Anyway, I've not succumbed to the pressure yet and actually agreed to an addition to the household. Even if i do nothing will happen until after the wedding. |
