The only thing I am actually lookin forward to at xmas is that I am supposed to be spending the weekend before in London.
Shopping, staying in a Hotel for the night, wined dined and more shopping the day after.....even though I have nothing to shop for in London ![]()

Aaaah, finally the thread for me! I love Christmas about 1 week before Christmas and that is it. If you have christmas all year round it won't be special anymore!

My views on Christmas, summed up in a myspace blog of 2006...
Its that mad time of year again. Christmas. We eat too much. We drink too much. We spend too much. Its a time of excess in almost every way. Supermarkets become an extension of Satan's realm. Throngs of people all filling their trolleys to the brim with party food that no one likes, more bread that Jesus needed to feed the 5000 and a turkey so big that in the dark could be mistaken for a Pterasaur. They abandon the trolley in the middle of the aisle and go hunting for the next tin of Christmas-based nastiness - then get ****ed because I have the audacity to move it. Well, 'scuse me but I don't want to spend one second longer in the company of these mad people than I have to...and why O why do they take ALL their darling children to do the shopping too? They run around like its a playground, getting in everyones way, creating havoc while being completely ignored by mummy who is reading 'Hello' magazine or picking the most hideous of the organic sprouts left on the shelf. Next time, park your diabolical offspring in front of the TV and do the shopping on your own! I still won't like you, but at least I will hate you a little less and the whole experience will be a little easier for EVERYONE ELSE. Then said full trolley gets left in the care of the darling children...dear god. These little ****ers have no concept of how much damage a fully laden trolley can do to your ankles. Next time your child runs into me with the trolley I will kidnap it and sell it into slavery. So you have done your shopping, loaded it into the car (which you managed to park only after you moved the trolley that some lazy ****wit shopper couldn't be arsed to push 8 feet into the trolley bay) and its time to drive home. Now this is where the fun really starts. The roads at this time of year undergo a bit of a change. The stress of the supermarket and present-buying spills out onto our streets. People seem to be in a rush to get everywhere. Tempers behind the wheel fray to snapping point - horns blaring and fist shaken in disbelief at the **** who just cut you up. You should try being on a bike at this time of year. It's...fun. So thats it really. The Christmas Spirit summed up in my own way. Well, bugger it. For me its all about family. Taking time to sit with no TV or other distractions and talk, joke and generally communicate with close family. Whilst getting slightly squiffy and eating too much turkey. Roll on spring! This blog was bought to you by a miserable *******. Sponsered by Southern Comfort, mince pies and St Ives air. |

I think 1st of December is suitable for Christmas decorations in the shops but it does annoy me that they are up just now.
I LOVE Christmas. I love everything about it, the build up the week before, the songs, the wee glimmer you see in all the little ones running about. I love buying my mum and dad nice presents, wrapping them up (rubbishly I might add) and then watching them open them. This year is going to be an odd one without my Granma being here but I am going to spend my first Christmas day off in 3 years with my Granpa. Even if he decides he doesn't want to come to ours for dinner, I will get mum to put it on two plates and I will go and sit with him, even if it is just him and me. I will not let him be alone. I love that you can just cuddle up and watch rubbish on the telly and either go to bed early or go and get drunk with your friends. I love Christmas soo much and I am determined I am going to have a good one this year! |

I genuinely feel for the parent put on guilt trips about not being able to buy little Jonny the latest gadget. Many years ago my parents asked us what they should buy for the kids. Clothes was our answer, they were desperate. and my parents did us proud. But the look on my 5 year olds face as he picked up yet another present squeezed it and if soft threw it unopened into the pile. Then the tears as he wailed "He didn't bring me my figures" I tried to explain he doesn't bring dolls for little boys which went down like a lead balloon. They are not dolls they are figures (Same difference to me)

OK, christmas. and breathe
My wife/eldest daughter love it. To me it is the most miserable time of year, nothing but bad memories growing up in a fractured family. The wife accuses me of ruining christmas. The truth is I do not like it. Unnecessary expense, over the top feasting. I would far sooner have a meal with a few friends and then once digested have a night out. Instead you have to put up with unwelcome unwanted family. only one mug has to prepare the meal, cook it and then clean up afterwards. Wife/daughter both work at the local hospital so usually cop for a shift Christmas day. SO expect to come home to christmas on the table curtosy of muggins

I ignore all the hype till Dec 1st. Then, once I see the 1st first Coca Cola ad in Dec - Santa driving the big truck, I drive the family nuts.
Love the parties, the presents, the meals. Even put a CD of Xmas hits on early on Xmas morning with the volume at an appropriate LOUD level, and rock the house. Shops can do what they like, i ignore 'em. Xmas, bring on!!

The only thing I like about christmas is the fact my family all get together (though we pretty much do that every few weeks anyway). Lots of food, booze and laughter over old times. Dad inevitably tells the stories of what a terror I was as a kid with a proud grin.
![]() Things'll be a bit easier this year as it seems everyone just wants vouchers. WOOHOO! ![]() ![]() I'm genuinely sorry for those of you tangled up in the crappy side of it this year. ![]() |
