I miss riding.

As Alpinesessonticket says above, some won't miss their bikes as they are more an add on to life, others will miss it a whole lot more and can't really do without for to long, most are somewhere between the two, the ability to ride properly is what would stop me.

Spoke to the man himself this evening and gave him my thoughts, get a bike, doesn't even matter which one to be honest, you're able to have fun on an ER5, anything is better than just wishing you were out there.

Aw Stu, what a plaintive post.

I would miss my bike terribly if I didn't have it. I'm no riding god but it's odd how much my bike has become part of normal life.

I like riding with people who I know so well that I could shadow their bikes and I know we wouldn't collide. I love that happy but tired feeling at the end of a ride, and falling asleep replaying the ride in my mind.

Stu, I've said this to a lot of people, but you must live your own life and not make it an aim to please other people - you end up pleasing nobody. If your actions do coincide with others' views, then that's naturally a bonus, but if you listen to and follow someone else's life desires and park your own you'll be miserable for the rest of your days. I let my dad bully me for years and I ended up on citalopram. There, I've said it. It took me 25 years to learn that lesson, it was a lesson very hard learned, and one I will never forget.

I think I would miss riding if I rode more for pleasure, but I ride to get to places. I enjoy portions of those rides, but most of the time it just gets annoying.

I'm going down the route of riding less, so that each time I ride, it becomes more of a treat. And this year I'll be working out more elaborate routes to brighton...the A24/A272/A281 is great fun but I'm used to it

I sometimes have to consider getting rid of mine, if i need to in order to provide for the kids i will, but other than that i would give up eating and drinking before giving up the bike!

I have always stated my bikes are here to stay and if you want to argue with that, then you'll lose!!!!

I don't care if I have kids or not, my bikes are my selfish pleasure, other people smoke or drink, go out partying etc, I have my bikes instead.

Mate, thats a brill post you have written, many many things there that made me want to get another bike......

As for family, they will. over time, understand. My parents are and have always been heavily against me riding a bike. Having just ignored them, it is now at the stage when we just don't talk about it. This is fine by me, I have no desire to share my hobby with them, they don't really want to know whats going on.

Hope you do get back in the saddle soon, especially after stopping mainly due to your now ex. Gotta do whatever makes you happy bro......not what others want you to do. Family & true friends will support you, no matter what, they may like it, they may not......but they WILL eventually put up with it.

Finally, I would offer you the use of my bike......but over my dead body!!!!

I had to get my bike without my parents knowing it, and once I had it, it took a lot for them to accept it (actually, they haven't yet), but at the end of the day, you can't always put others above you on every little thing,

Sooo, get a bike! It's obvious you're not feeling well without one, so why should you endure?
