Why do they preach it in schools? well...

There was this story see, it explained a lot of things for some people and made them feel better about themselves in general. So being nice folk they past the story on so that other people could feel better about themselves.

It worked for some, it didn't for others.

Those it didn't work for sometimes had their own, slightly different story that made them feel better. For others they just thought it was all a load of tosh.

Those it did work for felt better in lots of different ways. Some were nice, others were really mean and selfish - but being mean and selfish people it didn't matter that they did nasty things to others because the story, because it made them feel better and justified what they did - so they didn't care about anyone else (This was also true of those who had their own stories too).

So, the schools. Well the story seemed to work for lots of people round here so they told their kids as they wanted them to be happy and make sense of thier lives too. After all - nobody likes a sulky kid!

Then people moved in who had thier own stories and wanted them to be given equal airtime, this made all those poor RE teachers feel confused but important - now they had something to whinge about in staff meetings.

sorry K but my logic just doesnt seem to want to accept the first part of your thread, sounds way too ambiguous, to be honest i think anything by Disney could slot in there, but your last paragraph makes huge sense to me, in fact i think you've cracked it.....it all comes down to stories and who has the loudest voice.

Why do we need "Religion" ? -----if everybody is taught right from wrong, good from bad, respect, charity and treated others as they would like to be treated themselves the religion part of whatever faith becomes a story embelishing the morality of life After all is said and done we are mortals,Jock Tamson's bairns,we live, breed, die like all other creatures and if attending a place of worship is supposed to stop this cycle,or enrich, without all the global catastrophes it is failing I don't wish to upset anybody but that is what I believe and the "church" of whatever faiths all seem very rich of the backs of their followers but unwilling to share this wealth with the needy of the world These are my personal views and maybe some who know me will understand where I am coming from

I doubt there's any absolute proof, but then that's where faith comes in to it! Great get out clause!
not true, they say that there is more factual evidence that jesus existed than julius ceaser! i have none to hand, but hey,

but you dont need to have faith that julius existed u just take it as fact, untill u question it....

now im confused i shall leave,
Ah, I was referring to religion rather than Jesus, who probably (almost definately)did exist. But the basis of all religions is founded on faith rather than proof.
