Thanks for all the useful info on back protectors ... I'm in the market for one now. I've had 2 spills and think that the first of these could have been a lot worse. High-sided it and landed on my back. But ... was wearing an Oxford rucksack (half-loaded with work clothes and my revolver lock) which I think saved me from having ANY problems with my back.
Rucksack seems (at zip) ripped apart, bag was severely scuffed, and when I tried to get up the weight of the revolver lock made me think again ... and then a doctor pulled up in her car and told me not to move until the ambulance arrived. When they did, the buggers cut the bag off my bag ... as a precaution ... because they didn't want to move my head/neck/back. I bought a Joe Rocket replacement :P What have I learnt? I think I really ought to get a back protector, and I've stopped carrying the lock in my bag ... I wrap it round the tail and over the pillion seat now. Oh and just got my 1st set of leathers ... Joe Rocket GPX 2-piece ![]() ![]() Cheers, Pete |

I've just got a Dainese wave this has proved to be very comfortable under leathers and textiles, I spent some time talking to the lady in the shop and she made sure I got the right length and size. It is to be hoped that it's never put to the test; but that's what we hope about any form of insurance isn't it?

Never, ever, ever wear a back protector that is so long it pokes out of the top of your jacket! Yes, it should be long enough to tuck inside the waist of your trousers and protect your lower back, but not so long that it sticks out at the top. The reason? Your back protector is there to protect your back in the event of an accident....not break your neck! Jo (Going back into my corner again now) |

I've got a medium forcefield L2 Pro that fits me like a glove. To get the right fit I went off the size charts on the forcefield website. I'm about 34 waist and 5'10". It's very comfy to wear, no crash test yet. Just remember if you do get a back protector, try it on under your biking gear if you can. I took a chance and bought without trying, luckily it fits under my 1-pc, textile and leather jacket and inside my leather jeans but I have got 36" waist jeans and they feel snug round the waist with it on. If i'd got 34" jeans i might struggle a bit.
My better half has one of the forcefield ladies L2 back protectors, if anyone wants to know the sizes or some pics of that let me know. |

Hi guys, new to biking to just getting my gear at the moment, have just bought a frank thomas textile jacket that has a slot for back armour(currently has foam in there), which am i best doing A. getting separate back armour, or B. getting back armour that fits in the slot? I'm guessing A, but my thoughts are with B it'll always be on, where with A if i'm just popping round the corner i could end up getting lazy and not wearing it.

Answer is to buy a seperate one.
The ones that fit in the jacket do not go all the way down the spine. They also do not cover enough of the back. In answer to the second part, don't be lazy. It's your health you are risking by being lazy. |
