It would be helpful if they made the names a bit more distinct. The d211gp are the proper race tyres, the gp racer d211 is the track day tyre? Is this right? Can you get the latter in a 160 in any compounds other than endurance?

Correct. The GPracer d211 160/60 rear isn't a race tyre, "just" a track day tyre. In a similar vein to the Bridgestone BT003 being only available in a road compound rear.

Great for the Isle of Man but not sure if it's going to cut it in cold, early season short track stuff. On the plus side, it'll wear well!

More from Glyn..

Hi Carl,

You may be a little confused about the GP Racer D211. It is in fact our
trackday tyre and although it has been used as a control tyre for some race
series, e.g. the Harley-Davidson XR1200 series, it was not designed as a
dedicated race tyre.

GP Racer D211 was launched early summer 2010 and some of the sportier road
bike magazines, such as Fast Bikes carried articles - see attached file.

Unfortunately, taking a world-wide view, which is what we as a manufacturer
have to do, the market for 160/60-17 trackday tyres is much smaller than it
used to be. This is why we have only make the GP Racer D211 in the
Endurance compound. Besides, for racing we found that even with the wider
choice of compounds available in the bigger rear sizes, the race series
that used the GP Racer D211 as a control tyre all settled on using Medium
front and Endurance rear as the best option.

By the way, the 160/60-17 GP Racer D211 does have NTEC construction.

I would also like to point out that during its lifetime the D209GP race
tyre was one of the most successful Supersport/Superstock tyres, winning
races at the TT, NW200, UlsterGP and Daytona, and also taking the BSS
championship 2 years running and AMA championship. All won in competition
against other tyre manufacturers.

The reason we do not make the 160/60-17 size in our newer D211GP race tyre is also down to the reduced market for this size.

I do, however take your point on the 160/60-17 GP Racer D211 not being
listed on our website. It is listed in our printed material but it's simply
been missed out of the website listing, so I've notified the web team.

I hope that helps to explain things.

Best regards

And there's more...

Hi Carl,

I was in contact with colleagues in France late yesterday on another matter
and remembered that they used the 160/60-17 GP Racer D211 in a race series
last year.

They reported best performance results using 23psi cold, which is a shade
above what we have used in the 180/55-17, 190/55-17 and 200/55-17 sizes but
if it worked for them in the smaller size you might want to try that before
experimenting with the pressure windows shown below.

All the best

Like two riders ripping them off their bikes at EF on Sunday and going back to supercorsas! (and subsequent 2 seconds taken off lap times)

They bought French versions, apparantly not as good as Brummie ones......
