More cores will not fix that - thats a software issue, not a hardware one.

My single core Hero (so < 1ghz CPU could play music, do satnav etc with little trouble.

Mobile phones have lots of specialised chips - so running the radio/wifi is pretty low cpu usage. I assume the GPS modules are likewise pretty much self sufficient with regards to processing.

So I am still not convinced that more cores is better and not just marketing

Erm, 2.3 has been out for about 6 months - if you dont have it on your Desire by now, then it probably isnt going to happen...

Probably some aspect of SenseUI for 2.3 goesnt work on the CPU of the Desire.

Android 2.3 is on the HTC Sensation due out next week, so HTC will most likely not be porting to the lower spec phones just yet (if ever) to maintain the 'exclusivity' of the Sensation. However, I guess some geeky person will jailbreak a Sensation and port the OS to other HTC phones at some stage?

No matter what you get it will likely be obsolete by the end of your contract.
Got an Android 2.3 phone as a free upgrade for renewing my contract.
Does more than I need to do. The net for weather, e-mail and the org, a camera, and a phone and I'm good.
Had my last mobile for 2 years and it's now a dinosaur.
Last years cool is good enough for me.
Like Stig,I wait till something newer comes out.
Free Android 2.3 works for me!

My desire S came out the box with android 2.3 although in the main that is hidden under the HTC skin. It is the first phone I have ever owned/rented etc. so slowly learning how to drive it and do things my company issue nokia cannot do.

It must be my oversized fingers but several times I have found myself dialing the number above/below the contact I thought I had pressed, the same with the keyboard, I occasionally get adjacent keys. Apps however seem quite reliable if sometimes quirky but I guess that is down to the programmer.

What I did discover is that if I leave 3g and gps turned on, it eats the battery. Music on the 32gb card is ok, but again the player out the box is not quite what I would want so might be going looking for something better.

Interesting on apps I need satnav. I "acquired" a copy of co pilot. Might be OK for the car. but useless on a bike as the headphone socket is not supported, it is so quiet you cannot hear it above 10mph. So now trying N drive.

Google Navigation works fine for me and supports the headphones on the Xperia Play

Google nav requires data connectivity that is why I have not tried it in anger as it costs a fortune in roaming charges out of the uk and not available in the sticks. Or have I got that wrong. plus eats even more battery turning on the mobile internet as well as GPS

I know that its been avialable for a while, and HTC have assured users of devices running Snapdragon 1gHz+ processors that it will be released. 3.0 is out there and is for the newer devices and tablets. It will come. I can root the phone and get a ROM for it, but i'd bugger it up, so leaving alone for now

Co-pilot works fine for me using the headphones. I would say ask their support team but as you "acquired" it............
