I had this camera before and it's great. Long battery life, good quality pics, cheap memory.

Or any 2 megapixel camera with optical zoom

you don't need to spend more than ~£30.

You will never need more than 2 mega pixel for private use.

(This is coming from a guy owning a £500 7 Megapixel camera... You learn by the mistakes you make in life )

For me, size is very important.

If your camera is not small enough to keep with you at all times, you're going to miss a lot of photos.

offer one gives you the olypus charger with 2x1700mah. with the screen on the back the batteries will drain pretty fast.

offer two gives you a larger and probably faster charger with 4x2600mAh batteries. these have a larger charge so should last longer before needing to be recharged.

memory cards are pretty cheap to come by these days, but this uses smartmedia, which i found difficult to find in sizes above 64MB as a reasonable price, might beable to get some second hand on ebay

good luck!

Nah, what you want is a Hassleblad set-up, maybe the P45. Nice medium format, rocks the world with its 39mp sensor.......

Nah, noyl kidding. Being a photography nut in everyway I would recommend Nikon and Canon for compacts. Canon have some very nice compacts at the cheap end, the little A410 is very nice for around £110. Only 4mp but if you're not printing anything bigger than 5 x 7's don't worry.

On the camera phone front the k800i is very nice. Well in the camera phone world it is. From a camera point of view it sucks compared to a decent 3mp unit

Colin

Yes, if you want to pay twice the going rate for them.

My local Jessops had a card with a £119 price sticker, that Amazon were selling for £23. When I queried the price, I was told that it had come down to £56. Always check the prices on the net before buying memory cards.

I read in a camera magazine recently that many of the memory cards sold on ebay are fake even though they are branded as sandisk or other reputable names.

They were tested and performed about 10 & 20 X speed compared to the 80 to 120 X speed they should run at. In other words up to TEN times slower.

The reliability is also questionable.

A memory card is something I would only get from a known retailer. My photos are to special to loose.

Back to the thread..... for a £50 quid budget you should go for a camera with lower or no zoom and less than 5 megapixels. This should mean that money has been spent on optics and reliability rather than specs. I don't really know what to recommend at that price as the likes of Nikon/Cannon/Casio/Panasonic who all make great compacts come in around £80+. I know a mate who had a BEN-Q camera from dixons that seemed to do work pretty well but after a few months wouldn't charge up anymore.

PS. I might be selling a Nikon D50 body soon if anybody is interested.
