So, anyway, now that we've established that we're all alcoholics... Go read Iain Banks' "Raw Spirit", it's an excellent cross between a travel book, a driving (and occasionally biking) book, a whisky book, and a pointless amusing stories book.

(Banks on wearing your gear:
"I love the feeling of freedom the experience gives, even if you do have to surround yourself with a whole prophylactic suite of helmet, armoured leathers and serious boots. Of course, you don't have to; only the helmet is compulsory in this country. But the thought of biking in a helmet, shorts, trainers and T-shirt (as you do sometimes see people doing), so that, if something you can't avoid does happen, you end up sliding along the road at 50 miles an an hour or whatever, scrubbing off speed by the gradual abrasion of your wrist, ankle, knee, pelvic and spinal bone- the flesh having sloughed easily, if painfully, off in the first few seconds- while your helmet keeps your brain undamaged, entirely conscious and in full-on pain-appreciation mode is enough to make me look upon my insect-splattered leathers with something almost bordering on affection.")

I have that book on my shelf too!! What a job he had!! Drive around a bit, drink some whisky, then write a book about it!!

Kilted Ginger mentioned Innes & Gunn - mmm nice slightly chilled - that subtle aroma of fine whisky, but in an ale!! Great!

I've never had Jameson's, but Bushmills is rather scrummy...

yeah whiskey is was just the irish spelling. i'll happily sit down with a bottle of jim beam (very happily) but bourbons bourbon, whisky is whisky, and southern comfort is a caramel liqeuer (which has whisky in). they're completely different drinks! (enjoy responsibly - don't add anything to it)

Lagavulin
Oban
Tallisker 10, 15 and 25 yo
Ardbeg (only 1 dram out of it in 2 years)
Laphroaig

I dont touch the East coast malts any more, once sampled the West coast ones are much more to my taste.

If you are up west, try the Stronlosset near Roy Bridge (Foer William ish) for a good selection.

If you have money to burn in London, the Samuel Peeps in Park Lane, last time i was there it had the UK's largest selection of malts, from expensive to stupid prices.
