Acknowledging the problem is usually the hardest part... and you're right, the fact all the others around her knew about it means nothing towards her own recognition of her "problem."

I am more in agreement with the assessment of the situation provided by FS than the rather cynical and cold opinions offered by Spidey on this occasion.

The girl's condition was fuelled by her desire to remain a leading figure in the profession she was involved in. An all encompassing profession that is difficult for us outsiders to fully understand.

The sooner the bench mark size is raised to say size 12 the better for all.

Aye, but for many it's a form of mental illness... You might as well tell a schizophrenic to snap out of it. Not as severe or as debilitating, of course.

This is something that confuses me. Yup, there's a lot of pressure to be 'thin' to be attractive but the fashion industry is the ONLY thing that promotes stick thin as 'vogue'...

Take a look at any mens magazines and none of the women are stick thin. Granted there's not any cellulite or a slightly chunky thigh that hasn't been airbrushed out but they've still got flesh on them.

How has the fashion industry gotten so ridiculous?

Northwind racks brains for a time when high fashion wasn't insane. Fails. The main difference these days is that nobody at all wears the lunatic stuff, unlike the court of the Sun King...

IMHO, the upper end of the industry has always been ridiculous.

it is sad, but she must have known that she could not live long with a diet like that?

Now that much i do agree with.

Cold and cynical??? Moi????
maybe comments like "This planet would be a nice place with 99% of the humans on it killed off" that ive made in the past have given you the wrong impression of me PH.

I'm all warm and cuddly really. As warm and as cuddly as barbed wire some days.

I think that's completely wrong, quite frankly. An eating disorder like hers isn't driven by greed in the slightest, and it's foolish to suggest such a thing. It's a mental illness that anyone (even men) are perfectly capable of succumbing too.

And like drinking or gambling, one of the first problems is realising that there's a problem; but unlike drinking, I'd imagine anorexia can probably kill you long before you get a chance to identify the problem, let alone get help.
Thanks squirrel I was trying to put that into words! I would also like to say that anorexia is as stated a mental problem and with all mental problems they go un noticed. For those of you who say that they aren't sorry the fact that this poor girl lost her battle with a disease is very sad. How would you feel if your partner or girlfriend were suffering the same disease or even maybe a mental illness like depression?? Would you just tell her she needs help and do nothing and watch her die? If that is the case then I would hate to be your partner/spouse.
