While I take the view that seeing speed traps before they see you is all part of being a good observant rider, I can't help but think that the trafpol's scarce time would be better served looking out for things that cause accidents, rather than make them worse.

Things like texting at the wheel, swerving all over the road, tailgaiting etc, which I see most days. Not to mention the sizeable chunk of illegal drivers in stolen/cloned/untraceable cars, who have no fear of a speed gun pointing at them.

Fortunately for us the vast majority of Trafpol share your view. Unfortunately they don't always get much say on the matter as the message that filters down from above dictates what they do and where they do it, and that message is in turn driven by things I have long ago given up trying to figure out! If you follow a few basic rules and keep your speed to appropriate places you generally have little to fear from Trafpol, after all most of them are petrol heads as well. (I did say most, there are exceptions who are motivated by something completely different!)

Totally agree - was going to say something to that effect but didn't want to waffle on too much.

The amount of council meetings I've sat through (as a reporter) where numpty residents/councillors have demanded the police set up speed traps in response to some accident, even though there was no indication that the accident was due to speeding. Best one was them demanding a NLS went down to a 50 because a drink driver in a stolen car crashed into a tree...

There's the whole demanding action over 'bad roads' and 'bad bends' things too. Altogether now - there's no bad roads...
