Brake shims are the thin plates behind the pads

Bobbins/buttons are the circular things between the outer disk (shiny bit) and the inner frame coloured bit with "spokes" they are held in by circlips sometimes with a spring washer in place.

Thats the thing. I havent braked hard, at all. The braking perhaps hasnt been as strong as I'd been expecting, but stops the bike with ease. I havent felt any pulsing at the lever or any juddering.

Then I'd fix my horn, check the forks, bleed the brakes again do a couple of heavy breaking tests to a point where you get them hot and cant feel any judder and they stop reliably.

Then take it back to the MOT guy look him straight in the eye and tell him you've fixed it.

BTW when braking hard and hot do not leave the calipers under pressure after you have stopped.

Let go and hold it on the rear.

I think I'll pick up some pads for the rear tomorrow on the way home from work and do those. Check over what you've said to and hopefully get it sorted. Thanks for your help Tilt.

Spent another 3 hours cleaning the bike last night - finished the front now - back wheel is out - exhaust is off etc but still not sure if I can make it due to too many Sunday commitments! Will try and make sure the bike is ready if nothing else...

Just seen "Numbers" has posted a thread asking about rideouts.

We haven't commited to this one as the weather has been a bit pants to say the least. Trying not to post on too many rideouts promising to come then having to cry off. Skip and Sean are both unlikely to make it at present, so I guess I'm rather hoping this one will be postponed. Problem is, as well all know, is the huge area this group covers, that's make it pretty hard to post an impromptu rideout. There appear to have been quite a few members from over Skips way but they haven't got around to posting on here yet.

Perhaps, we could just have a meet somewhere centralish, and people could team up and ride over, have a chinwag and nosh, then head back. Not as many miles granted, but at least it would quieten the voices for a few weeks maybe.

Yup that was my hope too - especially as I have spent many hours cleaning the bike - I would like to bring it on a dry rideout first time out!

A meet somewhere suits me - there is always this from a long time ago...

Although its in the middle of Cambridge and not very bike orientated... What we need is a bike shop thats about an hour or so from all of us and worth meeting up at. Midland Superbikes is just that bit too far from me to do a "straight there, straight back" thing...

If we did have just a meet Plowsie, it would need to have a cafe inside this weather.

We went to that pub in Cambridge Skip, for the start of a rideout once. Bit pretentious and expensive IIRC.

Somewhere like Red Lodge possibly.

Must be other Pubs, cafes that would be suitable.
