When I was learning, my observer was (and still is) on a Bandit 600, he also has a pan, but doesn't use that for observing.
There's another bloke on a Blackbird, and quite a few on CBR500's. I think much of it comes down to cost of fuel and running, and these guys are plenty fast enough to keep up with us green-uns......

The IAM group that I go to (KAMG) one of the cheif observers is a lady called Christine that is about 60 & rides an R1. T'is true that.
