This 'ere whining sounds like somebody overtightened the chain, knacked the output bearing behind front sprocket and sold it quick. I'm not sure how this works, but I would have thought that excess play on the output shaft in your 'box would have resulted in all sorts of whining as the gears may well be slightly out of alignment or something? But having said that, I've had EXACTLY the same issue with my cbr6 and it's got no worse/better in the last year, run perfick, I just make sure I've got me earplugs in.

Far safer to do it at TDC with the camchain tensioner removed or at least locked back.

Doesn't have to be spot on, just wind it round to a point where no valves are open, but saying that you might as well check the valve clearances while you're in there.

bearings whining. looks like a new head, but for now, some Zx1 has been put in, to see if it calms it temporarily

this zx1 stuff. showing my further ignorance how does this work and how much does it cost

Apparently its a friction reducer that builds a microscopic coating on metal parts.

It's not PTFE so it doesn't just clog the lot up.

just had a look on net but can't seem to find anywhere that sells it. do you just add it to the oil and leave it in it.

yeah its an oil additive, 125ml in the oil.

I'd think carefully about using it. I'm not telling you to use it or not.

i'm willing to give it a go. its that or look for some better ear plugs. annoying thing is whines worse with the plugs in as mutes out the exhaust and engine noise

Is it a good idea using friction reducing things with a wet clutch?
