I recommend you mod the s**t out of your bike, thus completely destroying its resale value and making it economic mentaltude to ever consider getting rid of it. Works for me. Does have some minor drawbacks...

+1

Be sure to crash regularly too, to make sure it doesn't hold any residual value after mods.

I have done in the past but due to a few offs than money. My SV was paid for by cash so only costs servicing, tax, and insurance. Over the years that has come down for me. This year i have only done a few localish rideouts and the AR and my milage is a lot lower than it usualy is. I do commute on a daily basis into london, and the maths just do the bike proud. It costs abotu £900 a year to commute on the train, and my sums say about £500 a year for the bike so i save £400 a year which is more than enough to justify the bike. Even if my bike just sat there, it would cost me £0.41 a day to keep parked up, taxed and insured! So its a no brainer really.

Vernas bike only done 1800 miles last year and every year she says i want to sell it! Again, it costs her about £15 a month to keep parked up. She hasnt put a set of tyres on it in 3 years so costs her nothing in real terms and is there if she desperatly needs cash in some way.

I wouldnt dream of selling my bike!

Now that may just be my youthful thinking as i am only 18 but nothing pleases me more than being out on the bike, or even just looking at it and considering all the wonderful mods i could do to it given the money. This year the weather has been **** and i know for a lot of you you've probably had your fair share of bad weather but i see rain and tricky conditions as a challenge rather than as an annoyance. Everyday i ride, no matter how far shows up a new situation, you never stop learning when riding a bike because you're out there in the mix of things. Motorcycling is a way of life ultimately, sell your bike, sell your life....

I'm thinking of selling mine but only fund a different bike more suited to me. I need some thing more upright at my age!

Not having a bike though - I can't see it happening as its my safety valve against the c£^P at work. It amazes me ( & pi££%s of the wife) how often I get lost riding home when I go to work on it

Yeah, kinda know what you mean Tris, Ive just stuck a post up on the Daytona forum asking for a rough valuation of my bike, hasnt worked out unfortunately, its a shame cos its a fantastic bike as well, not even sure if I will be replacing it in the short term either
