LP - if I get it before the weekend, and I manage to sweet-talk Anita then I met well be up for that. Think it will probably be the Voodoo as first choice.

If I manage to wangle a weekend pass then I'll probably bring the hard tail and the susser so I can have a play on both

For all those attending, here is something to think about...

There is a charity MTB ride being organised from my village on the Sunday. The Cyffylliog Charity bike Ride was an annual event for many years until one of the organisers contracted cancer, then it sort of petered out. It's been resurrected (at short notice) in aid of the Air Ambulance and the local playground fund.

The ride consists of start/end on small country lanes, then a mixture of forestry roads / singletrack / muddy bits in the Clocaenog & Brenig forests. Seeing as it is here, it will be quite a hilly route. There may be a caravan with cakes halfway round.... If anyone is interested in this, we can book in on the day.

If folks want to go do a ride elsewhere, I don't have a problem with that , just that as the ride is happening while you are here with bikes I thought I would throw this in the mix.

Quick Q all, the tyres I have on are Michelin all terrain tyres, but quite cheap ones that came with the bike. They would be fine on gravel etc, but anything mildly wet they would struggle....

So, do I need to get any better rubber for the rides we will be doing? My budget is tinnie tiny...ie £30. So not a lot of options to be honest. Thoughts?

True, am only worrying cause of what Girth said, he thinks would struggle with whats on there.

That being said, I am very doubtful I will ride at the pace he used to.

I rarely change tyres mate , tried shed loads over the years and just stuck to high rollers in a tacky compound and left them at that

Thanks for stepping in Mike - missing my bike here in SA but at least it's sunny and warm here!! Looking forward to getting back on the bike, and I'm game for the charity ride on the Sunday if we decide that's what we want to do!!

Drew, if you do want to change your tyres I'd recommend Schwalbes, not cheap but you can get a nearly new second hand set for ~£30 on singletrackworld or bikeradar in the classifieds - I use a Nobby Nic front and Racing Ralph rear, but the RR is a very fast design so not much grip - I like the planted front loose rear feeling but others don't - Nics front and rear would be better if not - if you like two wheel drifting then Ralphs on both ends would be epically swift but also epically sketchy in the wet...
