It'll be my hairy friends 2 year Birthday soon and so I thought it'd be a good time to do a shaveathon.
It'll be very weird for me as the last time I shaved it off was hours before the sudden death of a close family member and after the funeral I started to grow it back. If I do manage to get any money I'll be giving it all to charity although I'm not sure which yet. Probably one of the big ones like Cancer research or the British Heart Foundation, although I know the small ones need money just as much. I'm open to any gimmicks which will make more money and any ideas of which charity/charities to give the money to. I'll put it on youtube too to prove I've done it. Of course there will be souvenirs to the top sponsors if they so wish. ![]() ![]() If someone can knock up a quickie website too that'd be good. Feel free to PM me. ![]() Last edited by monkey; 04-01-08 at 03:14 AM. |

Wouldn't you make more money seeing how much your close family will pay for you to NOT shave it off ??
May chuck a few quid your way if you do tho ![]()

Hmmm, money to the "big" charities dont really float my boat.
Reason is that they waste far too much of the money they get on "costs" like paying staff to stand on the streets and collect money. But to me a charity SHOULDNT pay peeps to do that, peeps should do that as part of their "giving" to that charity. And then theres idiots like Cherie Blair who justify a £10k fee from a charity by saying "but i'd charge double or triple that if it wasnt a charity" ![]() Still, find a good cause like many of the homeless charities or kids hospices and i'm sure we'll all be throwing a few quid your way ![]()

See, I was a "chugger" (Charity mugger) for a few years, and the thing is that as another way of charities raising money it's by far the most cost effective, it attracts long term donations from young people, who charities traditionally have trouble making meaningful contact with. Also, I had to do a weeks training on each charity before I was allowed to fundraise for it. I would have loved to be able to give that time for free, but I have to live too. As a fundraiser I earned something like 12k per year by the time I was running a team, not a huge amount I'm sure you'd agree. Especially when you consider that I raised somewhere in the region of 1.5 million in the time I was there. Sorry for the derail, and yes I'll sponsor you! |

Think of something personal to you, or choose something that's hard to fundraise for. Deaf charities are a hard one to raise money for, and I fundraised for a leprosy charity once that was really difficult because people don't realise leprosy still exists.

Jai i hear your arguments buddy and i rate you for having done that work.
I dont like knocking charity in any way as i think its always a good thing. A couple of years back i had loads of clothes that i didnt need anymore only cos they were way too big as i'd lost a ton of weight. now some of it was expensive but hardly worn suits/shirts/ties that i know others would have sold on ebay or whatnot. I took some time looking in the local phone book under charities and calling a few and asking whrre they got their funding from. I came across one who said "errm, nowhere really. the generosity of people i guess". They got nothing from Govt or the lottery fund or anywhere like that and i knew then that i wanted to give my stuff to them. So Monkey... as jai says, find something close to your heart and i'm sure there will be plenty of support for ya.
