Default My first visit to a primary school in over 20 years ..

As some of you may be aware, I am thinking of becoming a primary school teacher ... and why not, not only could I make a difference and see the potential rewards of seeing the kids learning etc etc ... bearing in mind primary teaching is almost solely done by women these days, the teachers lounge will be full of f4nny, that and yummy mummies dropping the kids off, neither of which can be a bad thing in my eyes!! But it will also mean that I will be in demand professionaly ... which again can not be a bad thing

Anyway, I simply went in today to show my face and fill in the vetting forms (to check I am not a kiddy-fiddler, which is fair enough and actually good to see!! ). So I was only there for about 20 mins, perhaps 1/2 hr including the showing round a bit and introducing me to the woman whom I will be working (well not really working as I don't get paid) with.

I was doing ok at being polite/good and then when I was filling in the form I realised I had just filled in a bit that said at the top to be filled in by the school .. the words 'oh crap' sneaked out at a level just above whisper ... now in normal world that is a pretty weak expletive, but I was in a primary school .. fortunately there were no kids about, but the office staff might have heard it ... on realisation, I just kept my head down and didn't look up!!

And then further to this, after being introduced to my teacher lady, I asked her if there was a place to get changed in the AM on Friday when I go there for real, as although in the car today, I'd probably come to school on my motorbike as the traffic is a sod ... I saw her face turn a bit on the use of the word 'sod' ... lets face it one of the weakest expletives available .. so I asked if that sort of thing was ok ... and er .. no ... so I said "What is then" ... "nothing" was the reply ... I said "Fu****g hell" ... no I didn't that last bit was a fib!! ... I said oh, although I don't really swear properly that often, I am kinda so used to working in an office with adults that ones like sod that are accepted ... neither time were any kids about, but it did get me thinking how easy it would be to overstep the mark witout even realising as even the tamest of words are probably not for young ears ...

So ... what dawned on me today is that I'll have to be on my best behaviour, which as some of you might have alluded to already, is not particularly easy for me to do for extended periods as I am a little who enjoys a bit of silly stuff ..

I might have stumbled upon my first problem .. I don't want to spend my entire day making sure I don't use words even as lame as sod ..

Just a thought, will they allow a motorbike in the school - encouraging dangerous and noisy activities etc

It'll be in a carpark just outside the school grounds/gates and feck them .. as for them not liking me turning up on a bike, that is me, if they are not happy with that then it is a non-starter ... I am not sitting in 1hrs traffic in my car at rush our to get there when I can do it in 15 mins on the bike

To be honest, if the kids see me on my bike/in my leathers then I'll presumably become the coolest teacher ever just like that - especially as my bike is f-loud!!

the kids love it when I turn up on my bike. I find it hard not saying sarcastic things to the kids or when they come up to me in the playgrounds crying that such and such wont play with them, I always want to say - I dont blame them your horrible. or just being able to tell them to shut up and stop being stupid - not allowed.

What school did you go to? My sister is a primary school teacher in Portsmouth, but i think most of her class are more intelligent than she is and they have more common sense.
