I am giving up biking after 32 years after my Mate got killed last friday on his way home from work at approx 7.30 am.
Why does it always happen to the good uns ? He leaves a loving Wife and a teenage Daughter . He was 53 and I can remember Him in the 1970s on Laverda Jotas and Ducatis and was a very experienced and careful rider. This is the last straw for me .... I only was on a ride out with Tee jay this time last year. I know I might get run over by a bus tomorrow ...but I am never going to ride a bike again ...but I would like to keep in touch on this forum if its ok. Cheers Caz |

phew... dont know what to say.....i guess you have to follow your heart, i do get paranoid at times, like what if, especially when i have heard of people being taken, or i am on an overtake and think what if i fall here.... it can be a wake up call moment, but you cant always make adjustments for others no matter your expeirence, i hope one day you will ride again, to feel the wind, the freedom and the joy, the exileration... all of the stuff thats kept you on 2 wheels for 32 years.... i wish you well and sorry for your loss..

![]() ![]() I admire your decision to give up biking, one of the things that keeps me involved is the social side of it, but you don't need to be on 2 wheels to enjoy that part. You have had a good 32 years riding, maybe one day you will jump back on but sometimes following your head and not your yearnings is the best thing. Big hugs to you at this sad time xx Shell xx and a doggy lick from Sammy xx

I was 15 when my best mate was killed, he was the catalyst for the ban on the chin cups, at 16 my cousin was found dead at the side of the road, his bike undamaged and still running. It is surprising I ever touched a bike.
What I do know is those deaths over 30 years ago were to people who loved their bikes, knew there was in inherent associated risk, and accepted it. If I was to be seriously injured in a smash or killed. There is no way I would want what had happened to me to stop others doing what I loved. Give it some time. and then come back to the fold. Once you have the bug. It is there for life

Sorry to hear that Caz. I lost a mate too.
Truth is, you'll never know if he, or you, would have gone earlier if it wasn't for biking. I took a 16 year break after my friend was killed, and am gald to be back on two wheels. My greatest fear is not of dying in an accident, it's of being old and having wished I'd lived a bit more. I feel for you mate. |

Sorry to hear this, must be hard. I've not experianced this myself but feel for anyone, their family and friends that have to go through this. You'll always be welcome on the org, with or without bike!!
