Default Dishwasher busted

I know there are tons of useful people on here so...

My brother in law's dishwasher is playing up, it's a Neff about 2 years old. It fills, then instead of starting the wash it alternately fills a little and empties a little, stuck in a loop. There is a little float thin on the inside of one side, that is what lifts and makes it start to empty, think it might be a safety device though. Knowing him it'll have a chunk of tuna stuck somewhere but I had a look and its' all Greek to me, never tangled with one of these before although I can fix most things. Otherwise it's all fine and was working OK before. Any ideas?

Failing that, any recommendations of a handyman in the area of Manchester airport?

Whenever something breaks........take it apart

All these things are rediculously simple when you take them apart.

Take it apart, clean everything and test everything.....put it back together and hope it works......normally when you start taking it apart something obvious is normally the problem.

The only next problem is if its a part that only a qualified/warranted fitter can get their hands on from the suppliers as they dont deal direct

Have a look on the UK Whitegoods forum, as its where I got help to figure out that my water pump was blocked on my dishwasher. Managed to give me the right information in relation to the error codes the dishwasher was giving me.

Sounds like a Naff rather than a Neff

Try cleaning it out first. I guess that there's some old food debris stuck that's causing the problem.

I've heard of one of these things called a sink. Dunno if they are any good but I don't think they will break down.

Does it have a dial? if so is that stuck so it keeps filling with water and then the safety kicks in and empties it?

Got to agree with G, take it apart if it doesn't it's work still good fun.

Thanks guys, the white goods forum suggests it most likely has a lump of chod in it, which I would lay money on before even seeing it. No idea why a single guy needs a dishwasher either!
