The car one has friction reducers which Bikes wet clutches dont like.

Some bikes don't like being fed on a diet of Fully Synth oil too - Aprilia's 1000cc V-twins are one of them. It causes the clutches to slip

Depends on the oil, the actual additives which help the oil withstand gearbox pressures can be found in car oil just very slightly less of it.
The answer is a massive "it depends" because there's feckin thousands of factors to consider. Some engines will take cheap crap car oil, some car oils are pretty similar to bike oil anyway, some are totally different. People say lots of things about gearboxes chopping oil up, "friction modifiers" and have no real idea how that applies to the oil, and the motor in question. However, the only way to guarantee good service from a motor is to use the oil it was designed to use. For the SV thats a 10w40, API SF/SG. P.s you won't find many bike oils meeting API SF/SG ![]() The motul 5100 I use far exceeds that standard as it's a 100% ester synthetic, but it's not TECHNICALLY correct for the bike as it's JASO MA certified NOT API SF. See what I mean about it being a grey area?
