Default are cyclists allowed to cycle the wrong way down a one way street?

Just had a scrap with a cyclist who ran into me outside russell square tube station. I was coming out of tesco's on the other side of the road to the station entrance, with my melon medley and 2 litres of water, looked up the road towards the square... nothing coming... step out & massive bang. My right calf is hurting but I'm still on my feet. There's a cyclist lying in the middle of the road next to his bike with no lights on.

Then he shouts "Why don't you look where you're going you pr**k?"

I lost my temper and stamped on his front wheel a few times, whilst explaining that it's a one way street and that he is a nob. He said he was going to call the police over "criminal damage" so I told him to go away (in other words) and walked off back to my hotel.

Are cyclists allowed to freestyle it or am I in the right?

No idea in the UK, but most one way streets out here in Clogland have an exception for bicycles, although it does state it just under the no entry sign.

As far as I can tell they aren't allowed as news articles from last year mention allowing cyclists to do so in areas of London.

Either way he rode into you. I think stamping on his wheel is okay
Especially as he called you a *****.

I have heard before something about this, perhaps only in London. The idea being that cyclists (yes they are the ones that dont have 3rd party insurance) could use the 1 ways streets to make their journey more efficient! As I said it was muted as an idea and dont know if it was passed!

Anyway, well done in your use of self defence at the least the cyclist has the knowledge that he still has a face, but might not have a front wheel!

fair play, a buckled wheel is probably the wrong thing to do but I think he'll have much preferred it to a boot in the face. That would have been harsh. A crumpled wheel is technically a public service because now he can't ride into anyone else

I'm reasonably confident its not legal, either way its a f*cking stupid thing to do. As is riding with no lights on.

Fricken retard its tw*ts like that, that give the rest of us cyclists a bad name.
