right, just bought a 2001 sv650, and im going to be having the mrs on the back every now and then,
thing is im 20 stone, which i gather is too heavy for the stock shocks range of adjustment, ![]() obviously the problom is worsened by a pillion passenger, and i dont want our first ride out to be a bottoming out disaster!! ![]() can anybody recomend a replacement shock from a 1000cc? any ideas?? cheers, |

Take off the pillion seat and replace it with a cowl.
Or buy a GoldWing |

Sorry - was just being daft...have people used Zx6 shocks before? As has been said, do a search for rear shock and there's a spreadsheet that lists spring rates of different shocks etc.

hey big chris, am no small guy my self do you mind me asking what size are you? so i know the best advise to give y athats all mate.. Also how tall are you as a simple jack up kit and work wonders for us big boys..
1st thing i would try is to get ya rear shock tool out ya sv tool kit " looks like a big Claw " and adjust ya rear shock so its on the 2nd from top notch, turning clock wise i.e on the left side of ya bike push away from ya best to have some one hold the bike when you do it as some times can be hard to turn it.. or try this, i have one an elka on its way Link : http://www.jhsracing.co.uk/suspension.htm p.s if you also use a jack up kit no need to hack up ya battery box.. use the racetech spring calculator to find the ideal spring stiffness for your weight. then decide how much you want to change the ride height at the back, if at all. then follow the link below and find a shock that comes closest to your requirements for spring stiffness and length. then find someone on here whos used one and pester them about fitting.
youll also want to change your fork springs or you'll bottom out on the brakes, the racetech thing will tell you what you want. heavier oil might help the damping too. racetech: http://old.racetech.com/evalving/Spr...pringType=Fork shock lengths: http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.p...ght=rear+shock |

20 stone + pillion, it has got to be the busa shock. Zx10r spring rate might just be too soft.
The front springs will also need to be replaced, prob around the .95 or 1 mark. GSXR shocks will all be too soft as the spring rates are less than the stock SV rate.
