D'oh!
79.27 in a 50 stretch of Motorway.
 Stupidly thought it was a 70 stretch!

Plead insanity, I would.
80 in a 50 limit would probably be a bit more then 3 points but it depends on the judge, if there where no speed signs around and you've never ridden the road you might get away with it lightly if you state your case well enough. |

Off to court (or plead by post), they told me they didn't have the discretion to offer a fixed ticket at that speed.

It wasn't a road-worked section, it was a permanent 50mph limit section of motorway.
