Will she talk to me? - SV650.org

I haven't seen her since just before Christmas and she has been left all alone in a dark lock-up...will she talk to me?
I put my K2 off the road at the end of Oct because I am a wimp in the cold and wet, I used to visit her every couple of weeks and run the engine and just move the bike around to save flat-spotting. I have not been able to get to her for some time and am wondering what the best thing to do to get her started. Once started I would welcome suggestions as to what to check.
I am planning to keep her outside for the next six/seven months...any comments on the best covers?

You might find the fuel's gummed up the carbs... If you're lucky, just turning it over'll sort that, but if you're unlucky you'll need to strip it and clean it.

Front brakes might not be too happy either, mind have gone solid in the 2 months since I last rode it

Can't even push it around the garage with my pegleg, so it's going to need a bit of TLC before it moves again...

Check your pressures, of course, and test everything before you ride it.... You remember those pre-ride checks that they taught you to do on your CBT in the full knowledge that you'd hardly ever do them? Do them

ref the fuel, if it's only a couple of months you might be OK, but if you have the inclination I'd suggest draining the carb float bowls of old fuel.

There are a couple of allen (hex socket) screws in the sides down near the bottom of the float bowls both facing inwards between the carbs if I remember right, you can just get a short allen key in to them with the airbox removed. It's not necessary to undo them all the way, just a turn or so, and the fuel will drain out of the bottom (catch it in something).

The fresh fuel takes a short while to pump through with some cranking, but as soon as it gets to the carbs she should fire up. Old fuel sometimes just won't fire at all if it's cold, so you'll end up cranking for a lot longer.
