Default ANPR intercept team

Saw this written on the back of a very funky metallic blue and yellow/gold checked sporty police car on the M25 last week. Looks like they're already getting into gear with catching people off of SPECS cameras and the like. Anyone else seen these?

i thought the point of the ANPR pursiut cars was to catch cars that didnt match the registration. Like, reg plate belongs to a silver vw but is currently on a black fiat or something.
The sort of car that cant easily be found again as opposed to a legally registered car that can have a nice NIP sent to it in the post.

But thats the theory anyway, i'm sure they'll happily use them for whatever makes them some money

As well as catching road-tax dodgers, they're using ANPR to look for vehicles registered to known and wanted criminals. Apparently they've caught quite a lot of people that way. At least until the crooks cotton on and start using false plates from identical vehicles.

They already are using plates like that on cars & bikes, was reading about it somewhere a few weeks back.

You don't need specs for ANPR, it's fitted into some cars with a camera on the dash. It allows them to pick up on any vehicle that is running without tax/insurance/MOT as all are now databased. It will also give an imediate indication if a vehicle has been reported stolen.

This is why they want you to have "legal" plates. The system has problems with some fancy and smaller fonts.

If you're legal it's not a problem, if you're not, watch out....

Yeah our insurance certificate says any driver, driving any vehicle owned, hired or leased to the company. Driver does not need to be an employee. It is just my head on the block if I lend it to someone who bends it.

I used to shoot with a guy who was arrested when he stated there was no insurance on the car he was driving, whilst being given a producer. The plod did not seem to understand crown vehicles are not insured

Wrong ? I don't think so.....

Any vehicle must be insured at some point. If it's a fleet vehicle the chances are that the your company have an insurance policy to cover it. If not, how would you tax it ?

You may be insured to drive a vehicle if you don't own it - I can drive my wifes car as a named driver, but the vehicle itself must be covered. I think that if you look at your insurance policy it will read something like "also insured to drive other vehicles as long as it is covered by a current insurance certificate" or something similar....
