I was looking out of the window this morning ( my house backs onto some fields ) and could see what looked like a bike on its side in the hedge. Went out to have a look and it was an X reg bandit.
What would you do ? Decided it would last 5 mins if left there ( either torched or nicked again ) so picked her up and wheeled her back round to my garage and locked it up. Phoned the police straight away, and was told that i should have left it there ( quite a snotty women on the front desk ). Anyway gave it a quick once over and apart from bent levers and some mud clinging here and there ( and all the ignition wires cut ) she doesnt look too bad. Just waiting for the police to get back to me.............. |

Personally I think you did the right thing removing it from where it could be further damaged or even retrieved by the scumbags. Police don't exactly rush to these incidents with CSI equipment.
If that were my bike, I'd shake your hand and buy you a pint. |

I think you did the right thing, if it was my bike I'd rather somebody picked it up and locked it away safe and then let the police know they'd found it.
I think technically you've disturbed a crime scene, but realistically what are the chances of the police catching the scum that nicked that bike anyway...

Nice one mate, they are only p*ss*d off because now they have to do some work, they would probably have left it there hoping that it would get nicked again.
cops are a useful as a chocolate fire guard when it come to stolen bikes in my experience. Good on you mate ![]() |

Well done for being a good Samaritan.
![]() However I don't think I would have done that. The paranoid voice in my head would have asked me how things would have looked if the police had appeared just as I was wheeling it round the corner, or failing that, would they think that I had stolen it and placed it in my garage then got cold feet? Better to phone the police and leave it where it is in my opinion. but then, as I say I get a bit paranoid with situations like this and the effect that any actions that I may take will have.

Thanx for the replies ( was beginning to get a bit paranoid, after the women on the phone told me i shouldnt have moved it ).
But since then have had two phone calls (from police officers this time) thanking me for moving it,because they had reports of kids trying to pinch it again this morning . Also had a nice visit from a very good looking police woman saying the same thing ( she was almost worth the hernia i gave myself lifting the bloody thing - lol ). I didnt really stop to think of the legal side of things, only what i would like someone else to do if my bike was nicked. Still the recovery truck is on the way, and im not in anyones bad books. On another note, the turning circle on the Bandit is great ( it had Renthal flat bars on it ). It felt like it would turn on a sixpence ( thats a small coin to you younger folk on here ) |

I've been on the receiving end many moons ago when my garage was done when I lived in the Midlands, the pond scum took my H plate CBR600F (when it was two years old, I did say it was a while ago, Sept 1992) and a less that year old KMX200 Kwak). The insurance bod virtually accused me of giving the things away but they did pay up months later, but not the true value to me. The police didn't seem to be bothered at the time even when told that some kids had been seen on the fields on the Kwak. I guess when all the IDs have been removed it's hard to find the owner.
The problem was that new insurance was very expensive after that with third party only cover offerred. Even insuring a small car cost a fortune for years after that. I'd have been over the moon to have a kind sole find em and return em. I recon you did a very good thing. |
