in reference to this thread:
http://forums.sv650.org/viewtopic.ph...ighlight=chain Theres some doubt on whether split links are ok, and have been riding on them for years, or not. I read in Haynes and it says NO to split links which i previously didnt realise. Probably something to do with the v-twin power stressing the chain or something, i dont know. Anyway to anyone doubting splitlinks, its reasonable to doubt them and dont want to be stranded on the M5 again. No matter how cared for your chain is there is a chance of it coming off! Anyway, the manufacturer (IRIS) doesnt supply split links for the chain anymore apparently, probably to dangerous, so ive ordered a chain rivettor kit and the HTP link. Can anyone instruct me as how to use it, i.e. correct tension/pressure so as to not overtighten the link. The last time I tried i broke the rivettor by snapping it in half as it wouldnt tighten hard enough and i used a spanner on it, whoops. Any instructions greatly appreciated Cheers ash |

whats is easier is a mallet and a ball pein hammer... put the mallet round the back and then tapper the edges over with the hammer.
