Default Hillwalking boot advice

Firstly anyone a regular hillwalker?

Im quite keen on hillwalking and have done it here, in Scotland and in Spain. Im looking for a new pair of boots but the choice is endless. I had a pair of Salomons which were very comfortable but sadly they fell apart while on a 3 wk trip in the Cantabrians of Spain. Salomon were very helpful and exchanged them at no cost however i just havent been able to get on with the new pair, and as a result i have done less walking than i would liked to have. The pair i have dont fit properly and as a result, a pair of £90 boots have been seldom worn. Im looking for a new pair and ive been looking at the Karrimor range. These are known to be made preferentially for a UK market using a different last (mould) to European boots

Not looking to spend more than £70-£80 with 2-3 season rating and ability to be used on fells. Any advice much appreciated

Recommend Berghaus Yeti Gaitors for any serious hill walking.

I found Danner boots good but expensive.

wheres e.d. when you need her. I expect Liz will along shortly to tell you what you want. She used to work in Milletts and what she doesnt know about this kind of stuff isnt worth knowing.

A pair of Alt-berg's made to order boots may well be within your budget. They're cheaper than the RRP's they show on their site. And they're in Richmond, which I guess isn't too far away for you if you wanted to get measured up for a pair.

I've had a pair of their bike boots (Hogg Original All-Weather) for a couple of months and am well pleased.

Im just after boots at the moment - Im gonna actually look at the Salomon range again and see what the new models fit like. I like lightweight boots and saw that the Karrimor boots were heavy - (1.5kg) whereas my Salomons were only just over 600g.

A good pair of Meindl boots take some beating.

I sort of know know what to look for in a boot, regardless of make.
One single piece, full grain leather (not split) stretching from heel to heel, and folded in and stiched to the tongue. Vibram soles. Good heel/ankle support. And dont pinch when you roll your foot forward, even when they are new. Semi rigid boot... an of course with that little lip thing for crampons if you are wintering.

If you are walking in rocky stuff you might want to get a boot with a rubber coated toe.

But, full grain leather is the man.
